It is only natural to be afraid of MLM failure – especially if you or someone you know tried – and failed – before. However, there are some very specific steps you can take to deal with it…
Firstly, do what you can to reduce the risk.
Secondly, accept that, in any line of business – not just network marketing – people try and fail. But if you do not try, you will NEVER succeed at it. BUT…
Do not get started with the expectation of MLM failure. Get into your next MLM with a solid resolve to do your best, and not to fail “just because it is ok to fail”.
Now, about reducing the risk MLM failure:
Firstly, do your due diligence. Do some research about the company you are about to do business with. Take a look at the products, the payment plan, and what people are saying online about it. Fair enough, you will find complains about ANY business online – but if it is everywhere, you may want to be careful (like Vemma, for instance, who seems to be getting bad reviews and comments everywhere right now).
Also look for complaints about clients not getting their product purchases on time, or complaints about inferior products. If the company does not do its bit, you end up being the one losing clients, and it is your MLM reputation that gets hurt.
Secondly, start gathering skills. Determine which skills you will need most, and focus on those first. The skills you will need will depend on how you intend to market your business. You may want to learn more about face to face selling, or you want to learn more about marketing on Facebook. You may want to learn more about writing effective advertisements, and where to get cheap advertising. Identify the skills you will need to do what you want to do, and acquire those skills – at least on a basic level – as soon as possible.
Next, work at it as if success is inevitable. If you want to be successful at ANYTHING in life, you have to take it seriously. That goes for network marketing, business, sports, relationships, even computer games.
Keep in mind that what you are doing amounts to business. It involves buying, selling, customers, billing, customer service, orders and deliveries. Things might be done differently to other local businesses, but the same basic principles apply. As such, respect the principles of marketing and doing business, and respect the people you work with.
Take your MLM business seriously – and treat it like it is going to be your sole income in the future. Give it the quantity and quality of time it deserves…
And you will have much less to fear – about MLM failure.
